Hair Coloring Techniques

!±8± Hair Coloring Techniques

Hair colors are soluble substances or liquid preparations used for staining, highlighting or tinting hairs. Different hair colors added or subtracted from the normal hair color gives various hues and shades.

A French chemist Eugene Scheuller created the first hair coloring in 1909, based on a chemical called paraphenylenediamine. Hydrogen peroxide and ammonia are the main ingredients of any hair-coloring agents. Hydrogen peroxide creates a color that lasts long and ammonia when combined with hydrogen peroxide allows the color to permeate into the cortex.

Selecting the best shade or highlights depends on various factors. It completely depends on facial shape, complexion, haircut, facial expression, eye color, hair length, as well as personal taste. These colors can be various shades and intensity. Depending on intensity or tone colors can be warm or cool. Warm tones are shades of oranges, reds and yellows and cool tones are shades of blues, violets and greens. People who are cool should not use warm tones because that might lower down their features. The best shades for cool people are purple orchid hues, burgundy and lipstick red. People who are warm by nature should preferably use simple gold highlights and golden blondes. Cool tones suit the people with olive complexion and a medium complexion with no pink to a faint pink at the cheeks. Warm skin types include individuals with medium brown skin with pink or gold undertones. Selecting a warm or cool tone also depends on the eye color. Cool eye colors are deep brown, gray blur and dark blue and warm eye colors are golden brown, green and hazel. These days even chart of hair colors are available in the market. These hair color charts can be used as guide to assist in color selection.

Different skin color also demands different colors to give a perfect look. Some hair coloring tips for different types of skins are as follows:

o Chocolate brown, dark blonde and bronze shades look good on natural toned complexions.

o Virgin dark brown color suits best to blonde skin.

o Brunette or rich red looks great on very fair complexion.

o For dark skin types black color is most preferred one.

Various hair dye colors are used for different hair coloring styles or methods depending on the features and personal taste. Different types of hair colors are:
Temporary colors neither contain peroxide nor ammonia. It coats only the cuticle and the color fades after one shampoo.

Semi permanent colors are used specifically for those who have 20% of gray hairs. These colors blend with the hairs naturally and fade after a week or a month.

Demi permanent colors comprises of low volume of peroxide but no ammonia. These are also used for blending away gray and last for about two months or even more.
Permanent colors are colors with peroxide as well as ammonia. These colors last long and require applying every 4-6 weeks. Permanent colors are deposited in the cortex.

Hair coloring and hair highlighting are the most common trends amongst Indian males and females, irrespective of their ages. Hair coloring is coloring the entire hair and hair highlighting is simply highlighting few strands. The highlighted shades are usually bright and have a metallic tint. Hair highlights are usually added to base color to give dimension and depth. Different shades are used for different types of hair base colors. There are number of shades that look the best on light base color but highlight colors for dark hairs are very selective and needs more care. Dark color hair requires the initial use of bleach to prevent dryness.

In the 1980s funky hair colors like Duran Duran and flock of Seagulls were very popular and the trend is now coming back once again. Individuals also apply electric blue and fluorescent colors of orange and green to look funky and stunning.

Artificial colors can prove to be harmful for natural hairs. To avoid the harmful effects of these colors and bring back the original texture after highlighting and coloring, following hair-coloring advices should be considered:

o When using the colors for the first time, try coloring the crown where hairs are the darkest.

o Condition your hair regularly to nullify the effects of heat.

o Hair ends are porous and colors fade quickly, so apply a shade darker at the ends.

o Color your hair only when they are fully dry.

o Shampoo gently with a shampoo especially for color treated hairs.

o Condition regularly with good conditioner.

o Don't brush your hair when wet.

o Don't apply lemon juice in your hair.

What is the Big Deal About Dominican Hair Stylists?

!±8± What is the Big Deal About Dominican Hair Stylists?

Dominican hair products and hair stylists are quickly earning an outstanding reputation throughout the United States. I am sure that many wonder if this is just a new fad or if the products and stylists actually deserve their reputation. To determine their credibility lets analyze their hair treatment process.

What hair products do they use?

Dominican stylists like others use the popular name brand products such as, Sebastian, Biolage, Paul Mitchell, Nexus etc. However, they also use the traditional Dominican hair products made out of natural fruits, vegetables, or animal protein.

What is their styling process?

After washing the hair they apply the hair conditioner. Then cover hair with a plastic cap and let you sit under the bonnet dryer for ten to twenty minutes. Later they will rinse it out and do hair rollers. After that you will probably be sitting on the drier anywhere from half an hour to one hour. This depends mostly on your hair type and length. Afterwards, they will move in to styling your hair. If you just want your hair straight this is the time when they will straighten the curls or waves left by rollers with a blow dryer. They rarely like to just blow dry hair without doing the rollers first.

So, besides using different styling techniques and products what is so special about their service?

If you take a good look at both their styling practices and products they are both quite beneficial to the hair. They deep condition your hair before doing anything and secondly they use the dryer that it is a lot less harmful than blowers and irons. Even if they use the blower after taking out the rollers, they last less time blow drying it. Therefore, they would do less damage to the hair. Meanwhile the natural hair products contain the vitamins and proteins that come from the fruits, vegetables etc. This nourishes your hair by giving it the necessary nutrients for a lustrous look and feel. However, the most important thing is that the hair is healthy. Many find that after using their hair treatment process their hair gets healthier permanently.

What type of hair can benefit from their styling process and products?

All hair types (curly, straight, wavy, and coarse) can benefit from their hair process. Due to the history of the Dominican Republic the population is pretty much mixed. Some are white like their European ancestors while others resemble their African antecedents. Then there are many that have mixed traits such as coarse hair and light skin or dark skinned with curly/wavy hair. This means that the products are fabricated maintaining everyone in mind. And the stylists are pretty much experts in the treatment of all different hair types.

Another Reason why their products and styling process fit everyone is because their main focus is the maintenance and treatment of hair. By deep conditioning it, they diminish the amount of harm that we do to our hair with harsh chemicals such as hair color, relaxers, perms, highlights, etc.. They also control the amount of direct heat to individual strands by limiting or avoiding the use of blow dryers and hot irons.

Economical Hair Care - Do You Need Salon Shampoos?

!±8± Economical Hair Care - Do You Need Salon Shampoos?

We're all being hammered with the recession all the time, but sometimes it's hard to know where to cut back. Here are some thoughts about cutting back on your hair care products.

First, you should consider the fact that while drugstore-variety shampoos are less expensive, they are also less concentrated, so keep that in mind when you're trying to decide between Suave and Paul Mitchell. If you're willing to work the lather a little more, you can stretch most salon shampoos to last a lot longer. However, it's sometimes hard to train yourself not to use a handful of soap, so if you're not going to be stretching it anyway, consider the following.

The main ingredients of most shampoos are about the same. The scents may vary, but chances are the main chemicals are not going to be much different. Many people will also argue that the pH balance of salon shampoos is better than most drugstore shampoos, but the truth is that there really isn't much of a difference.

What is the difference, then?

The biggest thing to remember is that everyone's hair is different, and that even though shampoos aren't necessarily much better or much worse than each other, some shampoos will simply work better than others for different people. If your hair is dry, you don't want to use a harsh shampoo that strips away all of the oils, just as you don't want a heavy moisturizing shampoo if your hair is usually heavy or greasy.

If you want to cut some cost out of your routine, consider this: shampoos like Suave usually go for someone between and . If it turns out that it actually works for you, you're in business and you've saved yourself . If it doesn't work for you, you're only out . You may even try alternating your favorite expensive shampoo (i.e. because you love the smell of Biolage and will not try anything else) with something more economical. Your hair will probably respond well to something new, and you'll pay about half as much for your hair care products.

Hair Product Reviews of Sulfate-Free Brands

!±8± Hair Product Reviews of Sulfate-Free Brands

Sulfate-free hair product brands are growing in popularity as sulfates, chlorides and parabens are considered the root to many hair and scalp problems.

The use of SLS - sodium lauryl sulfate and paraben-rich preservatives have been shown to accelerate the fading of color treatments, leave hair vulnerable to heat and chemical damage, and be the lead suspect in the cause of such scalp problems such as dandruff, scalp psoriasis, dermatitis and excessive oiliness.

While the blame is certainly up for discussion, many consumers have found that using sulfate free brands have helped their scalp heal and become more healthy. This could be the result of allergies to the chemicals, active ingredients, or the use of other styling aids.

Either way, savvy consumers and expert stylists are increasingly searching our non-sulfate brands - especially if they are coloring their hair or routinely get perm, straightening, or chemical treatments.

Look for the top reviews to guide your decision

While reviews are pretty thin related to non-SLS and paraben products, most reviewers and analyst agree there is a wide difference in the effectiveness, fragrance, and tactile pleasure among the few competing brands that have made towards the top.

Why is this?

Primarily because sulfate-free products have had a hard time finding adequate replacements for SLS. While sodium lauryl sulfate has been an easy replacement, its "good sister" sodium laureth sulfate has been much harder. The largest problem been effective foaming and cleansing and acceptance by the consumer.

What do we mean by this? Well, SLS is a surfactant cleanser responsible for the suds, bubbles and foam. This "foaming action" dissolves oil, dislodges dirt, and cleans the hair. Reviewers found the lack of early SLS replacements didn't offer the foaming level consumers wanted or would be effective for deep cleaning - no matter how safe or gentle.

Brands such as sfree®, Pureology, Kenra and Biolage have all developed very effective products over the last 12-18 months. There replacement surfactants work very well and they have branched including clarifying and hydrating products as well.
